The Shaykh : Yes. The well-known view among the scholars is that puberty has a specific age, which is the completion of fifteen years. The scholars cited as evidence for this the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), in which he said: "I was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Uhud when I was fourteen years old, but he did not permit me to fight and did not consider me to have reached puberty. I was presented to him on the day of the Trench when I was fifteen years old, and he permitted me to fight", meaning he considered me to have reached puberty. So when a person completes fifteen years, he has reached puberty. A person may reach puberty before completing fifteen years, and that is by the growth of pubic hair, which is the coarse hair that grows around the private parts. A person may also reach puberty before that, and that is by the emission of semen with desire.
