The meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "And men will be few and women many, until fifty women will have only one man to support them."

The Shaykh : Among the signs mentioned in this hadith is that men will be few and women many. Why will men be few and women many? The scholars said it is due to the multitude of wars, and it is the men who take charge of wars and fighting, so the men are killed and the women remain, until fifty women have only one man to support them. This may happen in some countries and not in others, or it may happen in all countries. For example, there may be a country where its people fight, so the men are killed or driven out of their land, and the women become widows, many women with no one to support them except one man for fifty women. So this is one of the signs of the Hour: that killing among men will increase until women become many and men few.
