A Summary of Speech on Cosmic and Religious Matters

The Shaykh : So, regarding the cosmic ruling, do we accept it or not? The answer is that, considering it comes from Allah, we must accept it, because it is the decree of Allah, our Lord, who does what He wills. As for the decreed matters, what is the case? There is a distinction. There are calamities, and people are in four categories regarding religious rulings. If it is a sin, meaning the actions of the servant done intentionally, if it is a sin, then accepting it is forbidden. If it is obedience, then accepting it is obligatory. For this reason, he said:
"Therefore, we accept the decree, but we are displeased with the decreed matter when it involves disobedience"
"So Allah is pleased with the decree, but displeased with the decreed matter, for the two matters are not the same"
