A review of what was previously discussed regarding the name of Allah, al-Hakim, and the issues related to it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may the prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
We have previously mentioned that al-Hakim is among the names of Allah, and that it is derived from al-hukm (judgment) and al-ihkam (perfecting). Judgment is of two types: cosmic and legislative. And al-ihkam, which is the perfecting of a thing, is also divided into two categories: perfecting in the thing itself and perfecting in the purpose of the thing. Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) addressed cosmic judgment: is it obligatory to be pleased with it? He said that being pleased with it is obligatory as it is the decree of Allah. And there is what is obligatory to be pleased with, such as what is decreed from the Shari'ah of Allah, like doing good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and the like. As for calamities, we mentioned—yes, we mentioned—the decreed matter that occurs from the actions of people, whether it is obedience or disobedience. Disobedience is...
The student: It is forbidden...

The Shaykh : ...to be pleased with it. As for obedience, it is obligatory to be pleased with it. As for calamities, we said that the correct view is that being pleased with them is a recommended practice (sunnah) and not obligatory.
