An example of the aforementioned rule regarding the people of innovation, which is the attribute of the Hand of Allah, and the refutation thereof

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : An example of this is when they say that the apparent meaning of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
to that which I created with My hands لما خلقت بيدي
[Sad 38:75]
is the affirmation of two hands for Allah, the affirmation of two hands for Allah, and this is not intended. In what did they err? In their saying "this is not intended." As for us, we agree with them that the apparent meaning of the verse is the affirmation of two hands for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And when they say that the apparent meaning of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
to that which I created with My hands لما خلقت بيدي
[Sad 38:75]
is the affirmation of hands that resemble the hands of the created beings, and this is not intended. We say: Your claim that this is the apparent meaning of the texts is an error. This is not the apparent meaning of the texts, because Allah attributed the Hand to Himself, and the attribution of the Hand to Himself (Mighty and Majestic) is like the other attributes, such as the attribution of knowledge to Himself. Just as His knowledge is not like the knowledge of the created beings, His hand is not like the hand of the created beings. Is that not so? So your claim that the apparent meaning of the texts, that the apparent meaning of His statement:
to that which I created with My hands لما خلقت بيدي
[Sad 38:75]
is the affirmation of hands resembling the hands of the created beings, is a false claim. And your saying "this is not intended," meaning this meaning is not intended, we agree with that, or not? Yes, we agree. We say: We agree with you that what you claimed to be the apparent meaning of the texts is not intended. But you erred in saying that this is the apparent meaning of the text. So this phrase that the theologians (mutakallimun) pass around, that the apparent meaning of the texts of the attributes is not intended, is an error in every case. Because if they interpreted the apparent meaning in a way that befits Allah, they erred in saying "this is not intended." And if they interpreted it in a way that necessitates likening Allah to creation, they erred in this interpretation, because it is not the apparent meaning of the texts that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is likened to the creation. Yes.
