The Shaykh : ... My dear brothers, I now want to see if you understand everything that has passed or not? Everything mentioned, the intended meaning is affirming the attributes for Allah
The student: ...
The Shaykh : Precise, and the author’s saying "I claimed, I claimed, I claimed" — this is said by the one who denies the attributes, who rebukes the one who affirms them, saying "I claimed, I claimed." And all these claimed things came in the Book and the Sunnah[Al-Anbya 21:104] and satisfaction with the believers, and anger toward the disbelievers, and the like of that, all of which exist in the Book and the Sunnah. But all these things are denied by the people of denial of attributes; they do not affirm them, and they are in two ways or two paths:
The first path: If they can attack the hadiths and lie about them, they lie about them, such as a report from a single narrator, saying that it does not establish beliefs, and this is a false and demolished rule. And if they cannot refute it, they resort to distortion. They cannot say[Al-Ma'idah 5:64] that it is not established; they cannot do that. But what do they say? They say by distortion. So in the texts that affirm for them, they have two methods: the method of refutation if possible, and if not possible, then distortion. If not possible, then distortion. As for absolute denial, yes, this is not possible in something like the Qur'an and mass-transmitted reports because they are established. But what do they say? We distort the intended meaning: the hand is power or grace, or we do not deny that Allah has a hand, but it is not the known, real hand, but rather it is power or grace. He has a face, they said, yes, He has a face, but it is not the real face, but rather the intended meaning is reward, for example meaning His reward, because Paradise is eternal, for example.
So the important thing is that everything the author mentioned with the word "I claimed, I claimed" is all attributes established for Allah according to the people of the Sunnah and the community, but according to these distorters, it is not established. And their method or path in this is that if the text can be refuted, they refute it and say this is a report from a single narrator, we do not accept it. And if it cannot be refuted, they distort it and say the intended meaning is such and such. This is their method in the texts, not only in the attributes, but even in what contradicts their saying in other beliefs, for example: the Jabriyyah deny every hadith that establishes for the servant a real will, and if they can refute it, they refute it, and if they cannot, they distort it.
The debate between Adam and Moses: the Qadariyyah said this is a false hadith, it is not possible, and we do not accept that Adam argues with the divine decree, because the human being has a will, so this hadith contradicts reason, and its path is from a single narrator, so we do not accept it, and they refuted it. And what cannot be refuted, what do they do with it? They distort it, saying the intended meaning is such and such, based on the principles of their schools. Good.
