The meaning of the poet's saying: "So you became their captives with their ropes *** Your hands were tied to your jaws. They came upon you like beasts of prey, facing *** Red, bridled donkeys with muzzles."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"So you became their captives with their ropes *** Your hands were tied to your jaws"
How are the hands when they are tied to the jaws? They are tied like this, so that one cannot move. So you are now their captives. "Your hands were tied to your jaws" Yes.
"They came upon you like beasts of prey, facing *** Red, bridled donkeys with muzzles"
This is a vivid simile, meaning that the philosophers and the materialists came upon you as beasts of prey come upon red, bridled donkeys with muzzles. What does a bridled, muzzled donkey do when a beast of prey comes upon it? It cannot do anything. The beast devours it in one bite, and it cannot defend itself. Yes. Therefore, the people of anthropomorphism and the philosophers launched an attack on the people of denial of the divine attributes that they could not repel, because they say to them: You are compelled to say what?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, you are compelled to say that you will distort and interpret figuratively the verses of the Hereafter, just as you distorted the verses of the attributes. Yes.
He said: "They charged at you with the same charge *** That you made against us, the charge of the knights"
Yes. The people of anthropomorphism and the philosophers charged at the people of denial of the divine attributes with the same thing that the people of denial of the divine attributes charged at us with. Because the people of denial of the divine attributes charged at us, saying: It is not possible for us to affirm the attributes, because affirming them necessitates likening Allah to creation. This is the doubt. And those [philosophers] charged at them, saying: If you have permitted yourselves to interpret or distort the verses of the attributes, then permit yourselves to interpret the verses of the Hereafter and distort them, otherwise you are self-contradictory. Good.
