The Meaning of the Poet's Saying: "This, and if my soul had told me that *** he would die before me, it would have been otherwise"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"This, and if my soul had told me that *** he would die before me, it would have been otherwise" (may Allah be pleased with him).
So, when he says, "If my soul had told me that he would die before me, it would have been otherwise," he means it would have been different from how I treated him. He means that I would have kept him with me day and night, taken from him, and read books to him more than I did. This is an indication that he (may Allah have mercy on him) considered reading to his shaykh the opportunity of a lifetime, but he thought the time was long, so he wasted some of it. Yes.

The Shaykh : What would it have been?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, I have nothing but "it would have been otherwise." It would have been otherwise.
