Warning Against Singling Out 'Ali with the Phrase "May Allah Honor His Face"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Our Shaykh, a warning regarding 'Ali, may Allah honor his face.

The Shaykh : Yes, we do not approve of singling out 'Ali with the phrase "May Allah honor his face," because it is a Shi'ite custom. We do not say this phrase about any of the Companions. Similarly, it is their custom to say "Imam 'Ali," but all the Rightly Guided Imams are Imams. So either we equalize this description or this designation between 'Ali and the other Caliphs, or we do not use this term for 'Ali alone to the exclusion of the others.

The questioner : To this extent, O Shaykh? Even if I am not a Shi'ite, praise be to Allah, I am a person of the Sunnah, meaning a person of the Sunnah here, a Shafi'i. They taught us not to prostrate to an idol like that, they taught us that, they did not teach us anything else.

The Shaykh : I know, this is an explanation of the statement of those who say to single out 'Ali with this phrase. But since it is a slogan of the Shi'ah, the people of the Sunnah should not use it.

The questioner : I mean, "may Allah be pleased with him" is sufficient, I mean.

The Shaykh : But.
