The Shaykh was asked to speak in a foundational manner on the issue of upbringing.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes, Professor.
Mashhur: Our Shaykh, may Allah benefit you and the Muslim community through you in the field of purification, for you have a long track record in it, and without a doubt the matter is so regarding upbringing as well. However, to my knowledge, I have not heard you speak at length with a legal foundation and an explanation of the Salafi methodology in the paths of upbringing and extended discourse in this chapter. I wish you would mention the general frameworks and the legal means in this chapter. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you, this requires people who specialize in the subject of raising those around them. As I always say, and perhaps I am criticized for it, but I take pride in it: I am not an educator. I learned some knowledge, so I strive to convey it to people. As for thinking about establishing the principles of this upbringing and applying it practically so that we establish a methodology and a practical example for those who want to apply this methodology of purification and upbringing, I am not qualified for that. It is for others to complete the task, to build the bricks upon the first brick, which I may have been the first to point out or hum about. As for delving into the details, my mind does not support me in that. Perhaps some of those present, and you are foremost among them, if Allah wills, can benefit us in this field. As they say, a man is strong through his brother.

The questioner : In the book "Principles of Islamic Upbringing" by Abd al-Rahman al-Halawi, have you looked into it?

The Shaykh : No.

The questioner : In truth, we do not need to mean establishing the methodologies of upbringing, for the Book and the Sunnah are overflowing with the explanation of the true methodology in purification and upbringing. But we are looking for a role model, as Aisha said, "His character was the Qur'an." We believe, our Shaykh, that you, if Allah wills, with the methodology you follow and embodying the morals of the Salaf, even in your responses to opponents, if Allah wills, you embody this principle.

The Shaykh : But this, may Allah bless you, is with overlooking your good opinion of your brother. Few are those you see, and what is required is much more than that. In any case, the problem today is the lack of these scholars who embody knowledge practically, at least in their small communities. Because in truth, knowledge is like a stone thrown into a lake; it has ripples that end, but there is a great difference between one stone and many stones. Therefore, the Muslim community requires hundreds, indeed thousands, of scholars who understood the Book and the Sunnah with a correct understanding, and each of them had a sufficient share of acting upon what they knew. Perfection belongs to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and no scholar can make all his knowledge applied practically; that is impossible. But some apply some of what they know, and others do the same, and thus the correct guidance spreads among people through the spread of scholars with their different sciences, specializations, piety, and righteousness. And Allah is the Helper.
Mashhur: Our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.
Mashhur: The new generation, by the grace of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), this call has a good presence now in the mosques, and among them are those who sit and are honored in your gatherings, finding much in your character, humility, and your pointing out to the methodology of upbringing. But without a doubt, these brothers who are beginners in this call do not find educational nurseries. On the other hand, when purification occurs in them and the aspect of purification grows, without a doubt this is a noble and great matter. But when one looks and observes, especially the neutral, if not the enemy, with the eye of the critic and investigator, he may find that this purification has dominated upbringing in a very strange way among some of the brothers. He finds that in some issues, he does not even give some of the earlier scholars their due. For example, he speaks, from the examples I heard from those who benefited from the methodology of purification but did not care for upbringing, and I think the reason for that is being away from your gatherings and not meeting you until the two images are complete and match. For example, he says about Abu Hanifa, "Abu Hanifa!" and the like. And you find, in truth, that the matter is perhaps one of the greatest obstacles between the blessed Salafi call and the common people: these symbols where purification has not been equal to upbringing in them, and purification has dominated and taken a large step. And perhaps, alas, in some cases, the results are, without providing evidence, a certain result in a specific legal ruling in a specific creedal issue. If the opponent or the neutral engages with him with doubts and evidence, he cannot refute them, and this adds to the trouble, as they say. I wish we would hear from our Shaykh guidance for all these brothers, perhaps he would distribute it to them and put the dots on the letters. Do you see how these educational nurseries should be in the mosques by the brothers whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has given a step of experience, in addition to the fact that they have covered a step of knowledge? Forgive me for the length of my speech, and may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Well, may Allah bless you, you are humming around a very essential point. But the problem, may Allah bless you, is that one person or a few people cannot perform this duty. It must be, as I hinted earlier, that there are dozens of strong students of knowledge who, before anything else, have realized the meaning of purification, then upbringing, and then they convey that to the community. Now, if we go back to the Prophetic era, how did the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) excel over others by acting upon Islam? By knowledge? There were not scholars among the Companions of the Messenger, who numbered thousands upon thousands, except in the hundreds. But these scholars, with this small number, their knowledge was naturally purified because they received it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then their knowledge was accompanied by action, so they conveyed the knowledge accompanied by action to the masses, and purification came automatically, as they say today. So it must be that we have, in a country like this, for example, as there was in the city of the Messenger (peace be upon him), scholars who understood Islam with a correct understanding. But the difference between us and those people: those people received Islam fresh and green from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). But one of us today must occupy himself with learning, then accompanied by upbringing from those whose seeking of knowledge is pure for the face of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Now, when you and every one who is concerned with you in guiding people want the effects of upbringing to appear accompanied by purification, who is the educator, my brother? You and I are now occupied with purification, and something of upbringing is attached to this purification for those who take refuge in us, near or far. But this community, who cares about its upbringing? Not I and not you, because we are occupied with ourselves. But the day this community is raised by a group of scholars, upbringing will transfer in a way, as they say and as I said earlier, automatically. The common person sees...The Shaykh : ...praying, and he sees his prayer and follows it. And this also draws my attention to something: the ambition to follow the scholars, because they embody the correct knowledge, is also not present in this community. And therefore, there are many, and very many, obstacles that a very few individuals cannot overcome by themselves. So we ask Allah to strengthen us with others from the people of jurisprudence, knowledge, and correct upbringing, if Allah wills.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : And out of necessity for that, you lift the burden from your head.
