The importance of the methodology of purification and education, and the need of the Muslim community for it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : I will give you a very simple example, because it happened yesterday, the day before yesterday: A Muslim greeted Abu Malik on the phone. I was visiting him yesterday, so he understood from Abu Malik that I was present. He said, "By Allah, I am asking about him; I did not find him." So he called me. What did he say? "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, wa barakatuh." So I gave him a lecture. He said, "What is in it?" I told him, "There is nothing in it except that it is a deviation from the teaching of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), this teaching that his Companions received from him after his passing and then transmitted it to us." I mentioned to him the well-known hadith in the Sunan:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a gathering when a man entered and said, "As-salamu alaykum," he said, "Ten" (peace and blessings be upon him). A second man entered and said, "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah," he said, "Twenty." A third man entered and said, "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh," he said, "Thirty." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so entered and said so, and so-and-so said so." He said, "Yes. The first one said, 'As-salamu alaykum,' so ten good deeds were written for him. The second: twenty. The third: thirty."
Suppose someone said: "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh" is better than "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh" with the word "wa barakatuh" added? No, neither this nor that. Why? Now, here a major disagreement may arise among us, who are all eager to follow the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) correctly. We do what he did in acts of worship, and we cannot do what he did, because he was more mindful of Allah and more fearful of Allah. And what he left of acts of worship, we all left it. Now, to explain the danger of this addition, even though it is very simple, we say: Is it good to add it or not? The answer is one of two things: either he says this addition is good, or it is not. If it is good, and therefore the one who added it added it, did the Messenger know of it? The answer is one of two things: either he knew of it, or he did not know. Well, if we assume he knew it was good, did he leave it? First: he did not do it himself. Second: he did not convey it to the people. This is what Muslim says. But this knowledge and this logical sequence, most people are unaware of it in all their acts of worship, from purification, to prayer, to fasting, to Hajj, and so on. So the matter today, O Abu Ahmad, is as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, Islam began as something strange, and it will return as something strange, so blessed are the strangers. They said, "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "They are a few righteous people among many people, of whom more disobey them than obey them."
In another hadith:
for they will set right the corruptions caused in my sunna by people after my death
Mishkat al-Masabih 170Isnād Da'īf Jiddan (Zubair `Aliza'i)
I believe that when I pointed this out to this Muslim brother, I directed him to the Sunnah.
who correct what the people have corrupted from my Sunnah after me
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2630Da'if (Darussalam)
The Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that is mass-transmitted from him does not include the addition of "wa barakatuh," even though it is an exaltation of Allah, nor does it include "wa 'izzuhu wa jal," or anything like that.

The questioner : The hadith of the greeting is mass-transmitted, O Shaykh, the one you mentioned?

The Shaykh : No, it is not mass-transmitted. But what is behind this strange, wonderful question?

The questioner : Because you mentioned mass-transmission, I thought it was mass-transmitted.

The Shaykh : No, no, I am saying now... When I mentioned the hadith, I said it was reported in some of the Sunan. But now, what is mass-transmitted from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh." It is not this hadith of the greeting. Practically speaking, yes, ah.
So my purpose now is this mass-transmission that we inherited from our righteous predecessors, led by the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). When a person comes... unaware of the correct knowledge, and adds to an act of worship an addition, and his intention is good, but his action is not good. I mentioned to this brother the following story, which is in Sunan al-Tirmidhi and al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim with a strong chain from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "That a man sneezed in his gathering and said: 'Alhamdulillah wa al-salatu 'ala Rasul Allah, or wa al-salamu 'ala Rasul Allah'" . Ibn 'Umar was truly wise in teaching. I used to say, when I was in Syria in Damascus, that we must take a lesson in the good manner of forbidding evil to the general public who do not have basic jurisprudential principles, especially regarding the Salafi methodology. For example, it often happened that some of the enthusiastic people for the Sunnah would hear the mu'adhdhin add the salutation upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) after the adhan, which is undoubtedly, in our view, like this addition of "wa barakatuh." But the enthusiast who has no knowledge and no manner will shout at the mu'adhdhin: "My brother, do not send salutations upon the Messenger, this is an innovation." This leads to... and it becomes fitnah and problems. Ibn 'Umar taught us the wise manner of forbidding evil. When he heard the sneezer say: "Alhamdulillah wa al-salatu 'ala Rasul Allah," he said: "And I say with you, Alhamdulillah wa al-salatu 'ala Rasul Allah" ...
"But that is not how the Messenger of Allah taught us. Say: 'Alhamdulillah'" This is following. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
What I am upon and my Companions.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2641Da'if (Darussalam)
It is not that the successors are not upon it. No, the successors, as the Exalted said:
there came after them successors who neglected prayer
[Maryam 19:59]
.
The student: So the successors.

The Shaykh : Yes?
The student: So the successors.

The Shaykh :
But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires
[Maryam 19:59]
What comes after that?
The student:
So they will meet

The Shaykh :
so they are going to meet evil - فسوف يلقون غياً
[Maryam 19:59]
The important thing is that this is how the Salaf are. We receive the Sunnah through them and apply it as they applied it.
This jurisprudence, O professor, derived from the verse and this hadith, the Muslim scholar today is completely unaware of it, except for a few scattered individuals here and there. When the Muslim community agrees on this correct Islamic jurisprudence, then the second stage comes: education.
Education means:
And say, "Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so, will] His Messenger وقل اعملوا فسيرى الله عملكم ورسوله
[At-Tawbah 9:105]
and that we are not included in the warning of
(2) O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? (3) Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
[As-Saf 61:2-3]
. Now, may Allah bless you, if you know the meaning of education, and this... educating ourselves first of all in the acts of worship that came, as we said, from the Messenger without deficiency or excess, then educating ourselves in... in everything, in our morals, in our behavior, in our dealings with one another, and so on. Educating our spouses, educating our daughters, and so on.
And the rest, each one of them can expand... as much as Allah wills for him of knowledge, and as it is said: ...
Now, do you believe that the Muslim world, even if you look at it in a fragmented way, for example, region by region, country by country, neighborhood by neighborhood, do you believe that the majority, the majority of Muslims in the Muslim world, in such a state, in such a state, in such a town, in such a neighborhood, are upon this purification and education? Do you believe that?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : Huh?

The questioner : I do not believe so.
