What is the Shaykh's opinion of the newspaper Al-Muslimun?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : One last question. What is your opinion of the newspaper Al-Muslimun as a newspaper that has adopted the Islamic voice, meaning it has independent legal reasoning in that regard? What is your opinion of this newspaper?

The Shaykh : I am not reassured by it.

The questioner : Based on what, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Because it publishes whatever comes to mind, publishing tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and what contradicts it, and Salafi fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and what opposes it, and it publishes news whose harm is greater than its benefit.

The questioner : O Shaykh, do you know that the newspaper Al-Muslimun is the same one that publishes the corrupt magazine Sayyidati and a sports newspaper, meaning at all levels and in the Middle East.

The Shaykh : I know about the Middle East, but I do not know what you mentioned before that, and this confirms my lack of reassurance regarding those in charge of it.

The questioner : Okay, do you advise, O Shaykh, against buying it so that we do not increase its profit or become helpers in...

The Shaykh : By Allah, this is a point that requires precision. I cannot advise every individual and every student, because the specialists among the people of knowledge must necessarily look into everything that is published in this time so that they are well-versed in its conditions and affairs. And I had read, thirty years ago or more, in some fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) books that it is not permissible for a man to take on the role of issuing fatwas (scholarly legal rulings) if he does not know the conditions of his time, and knowing the conditions of the time requires this knowledgeable person to read everything, whatever comes to mind. As for the general public, they should not read except what benefits them and does not contain what harms them. Therefore, my answer in brief is: for the specialists, there is nothing wrong with looking into this newspaper and others that are worse than it or lower than it. As for the general public, they should read the Book of Allah and the Sunnah (the Prophet's way) of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the sayings of our righteous predecessors.

The questioner : O Shaykh, I remembered in my previous conversation with you in the last call regarding the issue of hair dyeing that... the thing, you mentioned a hadith (a report of the Prophet's words or deeds) and said, if Allah wills, you will see the matter regarding...

The Shaykh : Meaning, I will review it.

The questioner : Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : And the truth is that I have not reviewed anything on this matter because the issue slipped from my mind. May Allah preserve you, and perhaps I will do it if Allah wills.

The questioner : May Allah keep you safe, O Shaykh. You are excused, meaning, may Allah help you with your tasks and gather us and you in the Hereafter and group us together if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : Under the banner of Muhammad.

The questioner : Amen, amen. May He group us with the righteous.

The Shaykh : O Allah, amen, O Lord of the worlds.

The questioner : May Allah keep you safe, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : May Allah preserve you. Peace be upon you.
And this is a custom we had there; we stayed in Madinah for three years and we used to say to them, "O people, what is this custom?"
