The response to those who claim the permissibility of placing a fresh branch on a grave.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : We have seen some scholars (may Allah have mercy on them and forgive them) say: "Place a fresh branch or a fresh twig on the grave, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did." What do you say about this opinion? This opinion is wrong. And it is among the most serious errors.
First: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did not do this for every grave; he only did it for two graves of those who were being punished.
Second: If you place the twig on the grave, this is a defect in this buried man, a defect in him, because you only placed it to lighten his punishment—go away, man—to lighten his punishment. This means that you are testifying that this man is being punished. For example, you would testify against your father that he is being punished and place the twig on him. Fear Allah regarding His servants, O people. We consider this statement to be among the anomalous and denounced opinions. And the use of this hadith as evidence for it is also invalid evidence. Do not place anything on the grave; its matter is left to Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
