What is your opinion of the one who says that the wisdom behind building a minaret is that it indicates the mosque?

The questioner : What is your opinion of the one who says that the minaret indicates the mosque?

The Shaykh : My opinion of this statement is that if a person is serious about this word and does not intend by it to justify this reality that contradicts the Shari'ah, we say to him: build a minaret for one hundred, two hundred, five hundred, or one thousand dinars. Make an image of a minaret on one of the corners of the mosque, out of iron or any light-weight, low-cost metal. In that case, we would achieve the goal he is pointing to, and we would agree with him on that. But we do not agree with him on this means that costs these vast sums of money.
