Discussion on Following the Sunnah and Condemning Innovations

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The second condition required for the validity of worship, what is it?
The student: Following the Sunnah.

The Shaykh : Following the Sunnah, following whom?
The student: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him),
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتّبعوني يحببكم الله
[Ali 'Imran 3:31]
And in the authentic collections, indeed in the two authentic collections, from the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected. من عمل عملا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو ردّ
Sahih Muslim 1718b
And in another wording:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected. من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو ردّ
Sahih Muslim 1718a
And even if it is sincere, as long as following the Sunnah is not present in it, it is invalid and rejected by its doer, even if it is sincere.
So if a man worships Allah with something other than what He has prescribed, being sincere to Allah and seeking nothing but the Face of Allah, will it be accepted from him or not? No, why? Because the condition of following the Sunnah is lacking.
And know that following the Sunnah is not realized unless the worship conforms to the Shari'ah in the following matters: its cause, its type, its amount, its manner, its time, and its place.
