Explaining that worship is not accepted unless it conforms to the Shari'ah in six matters: First: its cause and its example.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Know that following [the Prophet] is not realized unless the worship conforms to the Shari'ah in the following matters: its cause, its type, its amount, its manner, its time, and its place. Following is not realized in worship unless it conforms to the Shari'ah in the following six matters: its cause, secondly its type, its amount, its manner, its time, and its place. It is necessary that conformity be realized in these six matters. Mention them for us, brother? Mention them while you are standing?
The student: ... in its type.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: In its amount, in its manner, in its place, in its time, in its cause.

The Shaykh : Yes, in its cause, perfect.
If its cause is not established by the Shari'ah, then it is not accepted. If the cause is not established by the Shari'ah, then it is not accepted. So if the reciter reads:
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]." يا مريم اقنتي لربك واسجدي واركعي مع الراكعين
[Ali 'Imran 3:43]
and prostrates in prostration of recitation, we say this is not accepted. This prostration is not accepted; rather, you are sinful for it. Why? Because that is not a cause. This verse is not a verse of prostration. And if he reads
O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.
[Al-Hajj 22:77]
here, and prostrates, is it valid?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, it is valid. This is a verse of prostration. This is a Shari'ah verse of prostration. So the first one who prostrated when he said:
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]." يا مريم اقنتي لربك واسجدي واركعي مع الراكعين
[Ali 'Imran 3:43]
we say what? His prostration is not accepted. Why? Because what? Because this is not a cause for prostration.
And if he reads
O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.
[Al-Hajj 22:77]
and prostrates, we say this is a valid, accepted Shari'ah prostration, because the Sunnah brought it.
Now, I heard the brother next to me say: the first is specific to Maryam, and the second is general. But this is not the cause. The cause is reception [from the Shari'ah]. The evidence for this is that Allah said regarding Dawud:
And David became certain that We had tried him, and he asked forgiveness of his Lord and fell down bowing [in prostration] and turned in repentance [to Allah].
[Sad 38:24]
If we prostrated at this verse, what would the prostration be? Valid or invalid? Valid. Why? Because this is a cause received from the Shari'ah, even though it is specific to whom?
The student: To Dawud.

The Shaykh : To Dawud. So the result is that the Shari'ah is based on reception. What the Sunnah brought is the Shari'ah, and what the Sunnah did not bring is not Shari'ah.
