Rule: Every name among the names of Allah includes an attribute, but not every attribute includes a name.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
The Most Merciful الرحمن
Al-Rahman is one of the names of Allah, and every name among the names of Allah includes an attribute from the attributes of Allah. Every name among the names of Allah includes an attribute from the attributes of Allah. There is no name among the names of Allah that does not indicate an attribute, absolutely. But do the names of created beings indicate attributes? No. It may be said that this is Abdullah, and he is one of the most disbelieving of Allah’s servants, having nothing of the attribute of servitude. And it may be said that so-and-so is named Salih, and he is one of the most corrupt of Allah’s servants. But the names of Allah must include an attribute indicated by that name. Therefore, we say: Every name includes an attribute, but not every attribute includes a name. By this, we know that the attributes are broader than the names, for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) may be described with an attribute from which no name is derived for Allah. But whenever a name is found, it includes an attribute. For example: Al-Rahman includes what? It includes mercy. Al-Sami' includes hearing. Al-Basir includes sight. Al-Hakim includes wisdom, and so on. Therefore, the Mu'tazilah are in error in saying that they are people of intellect, for they contradicted reason in their claim that the names of Allah are devoid of attributes. We say: How is it possible that the One called Al-Sami' (The All-Hearing) has no hearing? Is this reasonable? Absolutely not; it is not reasonable in speech nor in intellect. From the mercy of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is what we see of the abundant blessings and the repelling of calamities. How many blessings does Allah have upon us?
And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them وإن تعدوا نعمة الله لا تحصوها
[An-Nahl 16:18]
All of them are from the effects of His mercy. The rain is from His mercy. The vegetation of the earth is from His mercy. Security is from His mercy. Ease in living is from His mercy. And whatever blessing is with you is from Allah.
