Some students cheat in exams, so what is the ruling on that?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Some students cheat and copy during exams, so what is the ruling?

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a student to cheat during exams, because cheating is one of the major sins, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever cheats, he is not one of us. من غش فليس منا
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1315Sahih (Darussalam)
.
And because his cheating results in his passing or being given a passing grade when he is not deserving of it. Then he takes on positions in the state that are only suitable for those who hold a diploma. If this diploma is based on cheating, it is feared that the salary he receives is forbidden for him, because he is taking it while not entitled to it, since he did not actually attain the degree, or more accurately, he did not actually reach the level that qualifies him for this position. Thus, his taking of the salary is consuming wealth by unlawful means.
So let our brothers and sons beware of cheating in exams in any subject, because when the government established the curricula in this manner and the student entered this school, institute, or university on the basis that he is committed to all its subjects and curricula, it is obligatory for him to fulfill this and not betray any of the subjects.
As for the assumption of some that there is no harm in cheating in the English or French subject, or in mathematics, this is an assumption with no basis in truth. Because all the subjects in the curriculum are required of the student, and he is awarded the diploma on the basis that he has mastered them all. If he cheats in some of them, copies from others, or has others teach him, that is a betrayal of his trust and leads to him being a failure in reality.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
