Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Allah presents as an example for those who disbelieved the wife of Noah and the wife of Lut; they were under two of Our servants who were righteous, but they betrayed them, so they did not avail them anything from Allah. And it was said: Enter the Fire with those who enter it."

The Shaykh : The saying of Allah the Exalted: [At-Tahrim 66:10] means that Allah presented as an example for the disbelievers these two women, the wife of Noah and the wife of Lut. [At-Tahrim 66:10] And who are they? Noah and Lut. By "betrayed them," it means by disbelief; they disbelieved and concealed their disbelief from their husbands. This is the betrayal. It is not a betrayal of honor, for it is impossible for a Prophet’s wives to betray him in honor, ever. But this is a betrayal of religion; they disbelieved in Allah without their husbands, Noah and Lut, knowing it. Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tahrim 66:10]. By this, the Mighty and Majestic intends to make clear to the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that their proximity to the Messenger does not avail anything, just as the proximity of the wives of Noah and Lut did not avail them anything when they disbelieved in Allah, the Exalted.
