A214: First: This noble verse is an example struck by Allah the Exalted regarding the association of a Muslim, and that a disbeliever does not benefit from associating with a Muslim, as long as he has not entered into Islam, for on the Day of Resurrection he will be in the Fire, and his companionship with the Muslim and his association with him will not benefit him, even if the friendship and relationship between them were strong; because he is not a Muslim. As for the betrayal that occurred from the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot, it is a betrayal of the religion, for the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot were disbelievers; so they betrayed
in the religion, in that they did not enter into the religion of their husbands, and this is considered betrayal, and it is not a betrayal of honor; for the beds of the Prophets (peace be upon them) are protected, and it is not possible for a Prophet to marry a woman who betrays him in her honor, because they are protected from that. So the intended meaning here of betrayal is: betrayal of the religion. It was also said that their betrayal was that the wife of Noah used to inform the disbelievers of the secrets of Noah (peace be upon him), and describe him as a madman, and the betrayal of the wife of Lot was that she used to point out to her people the guests of Lot (peace be upon him), so that they would commit the indecency with them, so they are betrayers of the trust between them and their husbands by not preserving the secrets and disclosing them, and the result is that this betrayal is not a betrayal in honor, which is the known betrayal, but rather: it is either a betrayal in the religion, or it is a betrayal in not preserving secrets.
Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so those prophets did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter."
