Explaining that a general endowment is better than an endowment restricted to descendants

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And he did not restrict it to his descendants, and this is part of his jurisprudence (may Allah have mercy on him and may Allah be pleased with him). This is because the benefit of an endowment restricted to descendants is more intense for the person himself than if it were for outsiders, but what results from it in the future is more harmful than if it were an endowment for outsiders outside the descendants. How is this? A man has three sons and endows a house on them, saying, "This is an endowment for them and their descendants." The first generation, how many are they? Three. It is very easy for them to divide it and dispose of it without envying one another. Then these three come, and each of the sons has ten. How many are they now? They become thirty. The difference of opinion will be greater and the dispute will be more. These thirty, each has ten. How many are they? Three hundred. And the three hundred, each has ten, they become three thousand. And each one gives ten generations, yes, and so on. As these people multiply, they become a village, and disputes over this endowment increase among them. Therefore, we find that endowments for specific people may end in destruction, because if they fall into disarray, they do not agree to rebuild it, and at that time dispute and destruction occur. We see that people should depart from this view they held in the past, and that a person should give for himself while he is alive, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The best charity is that you give charity while you are healthy, stingy, hoping to live long and fearing poverty, and you do not delay until the soul reaches the throat, then you say, "So much for so-and-so, and so much for so-and-so," while it was already for so-and-so. خير الصدقة أن تصدق وأنت صحيح شحيح تأمل البقاء وتخشى الفقر ولا تمهل حتى إذا بلغت الحلقوم قلت لفلان كذا ولفلان كذا وقد كان لفلان
