The Shaykh : It has conditions: Repentance has conditions that must be fulfilled.
The first condition: Sincerity to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Sincerity to Allah means that one does not intend by repentance to gain a worldly benefit or to appear before people in the status of a repentant person, but rather seeks by repentance the Face of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and salvation from the Fire. O Allah, save us from the Fire. O Allah, save us from the Fire. O Allah, save us from the Fire. He intends this, because sins, my brothers, have effects. Sins may envelop the heart, and may Allah protect us from that, causing it to harden so that one does not see the truth as truth, but sees the falsehood as falsehood. Listen:
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." إذا تتلى عليه آياتنا قال أساطير الأولين
[Al-Qalam 68:15]
Allah the Exalted said:
No! كلا
They are not the tales of the former peoples
Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبون
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:14]
And He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allah has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil أفرأيت من اتخذ إلهه هواه وأضله الله على علم وختم على سمعه وقلبه وجعل على بصره غشاوة
[Al-Jathiyah 45:23]
