Discussion of Munkar and Nakir and their questioning of the deceased about Allah, the Prophet, and the religion
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And among that is Munkar and Nakir, the two angels who question a person when he is buried about his Lord, his religion, and his Prophet. The angels have been made subject to him. When a person dies and is buried, and his companions leave him until he can hear the sound of their sandals as they depart, he hears the sound of the sandals while he is in the grave. If we were to return to tangible reality, we would say it is impossible, is it not? But this is a matter about which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) informed us, so we say: We have heard and we have obeyed and we have believed. He hears the sound of the sandals. Two angels come to him and make him sit in the grave, and they question him with three questions: Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet? O Allah, make us firm at the time of questioning. O Allah, make us firm at the time of questioning. O Allah, make us firm at the time of questioning. As for the believer, he says: My Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam, and my Prophet is Muhammad. Then a caller from the heavens calls out: Your servant has spoken the truth about his Lord, Allah, his religion, Islam, and his Prophet, Muhammad. As for the hypocrite, and may Allah protect us from hypocrisy, the hypocrite who displays that he is a Muslim while he is not a Muslim, he says: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, but they are not believers. There is no power and no strength except with Allah. This hypocrite is asked these three questions and he says: Ha, ha, I do not know. I heard people saying something, so I said it. He is prevented from giving the correct answer. Pay attention to his saying: "Ha, ha," as if he is trying to remember something, and he is prevented from remembering it. It is known that one who remembers something and is then prevented from remembering it is more regretful than one who did not remember it in the first place. Do you agree with me on this? Yes, he is more regretful, as if he had gained something and then lost it. I heard people saying something, so I said it. So he is saying with his tongue what did not reach his heart. We ask Allah for well-being.
