Is it permissible to change the ihram garments to wash them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is it permissible to change the ihram garments, specifically to wash them?

The Shaykh : It is permissible for the person in ihram to change his garments to others that are permissible for him to wear, whether this is for a need or without a need. This is because a specific garment does not become obligatory by virtue of entering ihram in it; that is, if he enters ihram in a garment, it is not obligatory for him to remain in that garment until he completes his rites. Rather, he may change his garments, and there is no difference in this between a man and a woman.
As for what some people assume, that if a person enters ihram in a garment, he is obligated to remain in it until he completes the rites, this has no basis in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor in the statements of the Companions, nor even in the words of the scholars, as far as we know. If the garment in which a person entered ihram becomes dirty, and he wears another garment that is permissible for him to wear, and washes the first garment, there is nothing wrong with that.
