A man slept through the witr prayer: what is the method of making it up and when?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. A person slept through his witr. Does he make it up? What is the method for making up the witr?

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And at what time does he make it up? Is it between the adhan and the iqamah, or after the sun has risen?

The Shaykh : If he slept through the witr, he makes it up as an even number. That is, if his custom was to pray witr with three rak'ahs, he prays four; if his custom was to pray witr with five, he prays six. This is based on the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when pain or sleep overcame him, would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day. كان النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام إذا غلبه وجع أو نوم صلى من النهار اثنتي عشرة ركعة
He prays these rak'ahs after the sun has risen on the following day, meaning after it has risen by the length of a spear. Yes.
