The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
May peace and mercy of Allah be upon you, O honorable Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The Shaykh : There is a type of fabric called jeans that is tailored in various ways for children’s clothing for boys and girls. It is distinguished by its quality and durability. The issue is that this material is worn by the disbelievers and others in the form of tight trousers, which is well known. The question is: Does using this fabric in its various forms, other than tight trousers, meaning using it for its durability and quality, fall under imitating the disbelievers? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Imitating the disbelievers means that a person does something that is specific to the people he is imitating. So, if he uses this fabric or any other in a way that resembles the clothing of the disbelievers, he has fallen into imitating the disbelievers. However, if the clothing of the disbelievers is made of this fabric, but it is tailored in a different way that differs from the clothing of the disbelievers, then there is nothing wrong with that.

The questioner : If the fabric is for children, but it is not worn in the same way as the fabric that comes in this form, but rather it is made loose.

The Shaykh : In a way that differs from the way of the disbelievers, there is nothing wrong with that. The fabric itself does not involve imitating the disbelievers, because the fabric is not specific to them.

The questioner : Even if they are famous for this type of fabric?

The Shaykh : Yes, even if they are famous for it, as long as the style is not in the style of what the disbelievers wear.
