The reciter: Yahya narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Razzaq informed us, saying: Ibn Jurayj informed us, saying: Ibn Shihab informed me, from Sahl ibn Sa'd Sahih al-Bukhari 7166.
The Shaykh : Judging in the mosque is clear; that is, we find the judge in the mosque judging between people, and this was practiced before. As for li'an, it is the mutual oath between a man and his wife. Its cause is a man falsely accusing his wife of zina. If he does this, and the woman confesses, the hadd is established against her. If she denies it, we say to him: present proof, or the hadd will be applied to your back, or perform li'an. If he does not find proof, he performs li'an, and the hadd is dropped. Li'an is that he says: "I bear witness by Allah that my wife, so-and-so, committed zina," and in the fifth statement he says: "And the curse of Allah be upon me if I am among the liars." She then responds by saying: "I bear witness by Allah that my husband has lied in what he accused me of regarding zina," and in the fifth statement she says: "And the wrath of Allah be upon me if he is among the truthful." When the li'an is completed, separation occurs between them permanently. For this reason, we passed by the prohibitions of marriage, which include permanent separation due to li'an, specifically the li'an of the one who performed li'an.
A man from the Ansar came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "If a man finds another man sleeping with his wife, should he kill him?" That man and his wife then did Lian in the mosque while I was present.
