The Meaning of the First Principle According to the Mu'tazilah, Which Is Tawhid

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : But what they mean by tawhid is that one does not affirm any attribute for Allah. In other words, anyone who affirms an attribute for Allah is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). Allah has no hearing, no sight, no power, no speech, and nothing else. Because if you affirm an attribute, you have affirmed a god alongside Allah. When you say that this attribute is eternal, meaning it has no beginning, you have made it a god alongside Allah. How many attributes of Allah do you have? He said: The attributes of Allah are innumerable. He said: You are more disbelieving than the Christians, because the Christians made Allah three, and you have made Him thirty thousand or more. You are more disbelieving than they are. So, deny the attributes. If you say that Allah has attributes that are not eternal, you are compelled to say that events occur in Allah or that events settle in Allah. In that case, we say that events do not exist except in something that is created, and you have denied the eternity of Allah. So, what is their tawhid now? Their tawhid has become ta'til (denial of the divine attributes) and denial of the Creator (Mighty and Majestic). Because the existence of a self devoid of attributes is what?
The student: Impossible.

The Shaykh : Impossible. The existence of a self devoid of attributes is impossible.
The student: Impossible.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Impossible.

The Shaykh : Impossible. So, the existence of Allah is impossible according to their premise.
The student: Impossible.

The Shaykh : Impossible. How is that? Even though when you hear tawhid, you say, "What Allah willed," as the best of things.
