Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the chapter of li'an, why are the husband and wife specifically singled out for li'an, to the exclusion of others?

The Shaykh : Yes. The husband and wife are singled out for li'an, to the exclusion of others, because a man’s accusation of his wife with zina is only possible if he is certain of it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because her zina is a corruption of his bed and a disgrace upon him, unlike the case where a man accuses someone other than his wife, in which case the hadd is applied to him; the hadd for qadhf is eighty lashes, and li'an is not required.
For this reason, you will find that the supplication in li'an regarding the husband involves the curse, and he says in the fifth:
And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars. وَالْخَامِسَةُ أَنَّ لَعْنَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ
[An-Nur 24:7]
And regarding the husband, it involves anger, and anger is more severe. This is because it is very unlikely that a husband would claim his wife committed zina while being a liar.
As for the wife, it is very easy for her to lie and deny what her husband accused her of. Therefore, the supplication regarding her involves anger, because it is more severe and greater. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. This is...

The Shaykh : I say that it is more severe and greater than the curse.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you. This is a listener to the program who says, "O honorable Shaykh."
