(The Seventh Comparison) And you say, “O Allah, You are the Witness, the Most High,” pointing with your finger and fingertips toward the sky, and our pointing to Him is not physical, but rather it is in the minds.

The Shaykh :“And you say, ‘O Allah, You are the Witness, the Most High,’ pointing with your finger and fingertips
toward the sky, and what we point to is *** physical, whereas that is in the minds.

When did he say this? He said it during the Farewell Pilgrimage, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) established the great principles he established. He said:
“Have I not conveyed it?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “O Allah, be witness,” raising his finger to the sky and moving it for the people. “Have I not conveyed it?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “O Allah, be witness.” ألا هل بلغت ؟ قالوا نعم قال : اللهم اشهد يرفع أصبعه إلى السماء وينكتها للناس ألا هل بلغت ؟ قالوا نعم قال : اللهم اشهد
three times, while bearing witness to Allah the Mighty and Majestic that the Companions had acknowledged the delivery of the message. Where did he raise his finger? To the sky. He said, “This is not permissible; this is an error. For Allah the Exalted is not pointed to with a physical gesture, but only with a spiritual gesture of the heart. As for physically, no. For this reason, some of them said that if anyone pointed to Him with his finger, his finger would be cut off. I seek refuge in Allah. Why? Because in their view, this is disbelief. They consider this to be disbelief. We ask Allah for safety. All right.”
