If a man fires a bullet with the intention of hunting birds, but he did not see a bird, and it hits a bird, is it permissible for him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a man fires a bullet with the intention of hitting a bird, but he did not see a bird, and it hits a bird, is that permissible for him?

The Shaykh : I mean, is the bird permissible to eat?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The bird here is not permissible to eat because he did not intend to hit it, and intention and purpose are necessary. If a person shoots an arrow while he does not see a bird, and it hits a bird and kills it with the arrow, then it is not permissible to eat, because one of the conditions of slaughter and hunting is intention. For this reason, if he throws a knife and it hits the throat of a sheep and drains its blood, then this sheep is not permissible to eat due to the lack of intention.
Therefore, we say that the slaughter of a madman does not make the slaughtered animal permissible due to the lack of intention. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) differed on whether the intention to eat is required or not. Some of them said that the intention to eat is required, and that if he slaughters for play, to test the knife, to practice slaughtering, or something similar to this, then the slaughtered animal is not permissible. But the correct view is that it is permissible as long as he intended the slaughter.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Then it is considered slaughtered and its eating is permissible. As for what is done without intention, the slaughtered animal is not permissible by it, and likewise, the hunted animal is not permissible by it. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This questioner says.
