Fatwa No. ( 18278 )
Q: What is the ruling on hunting birds with a trap ? Knowing that this device sometimes kills the bird without the blood flowing, is it permissible to eat the meat of these birds that were not slaughtered? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A: If the bird dies in the trap, it is not permissible to eat; because the conditions of slaughter are not present in it, which are: the specific tool that cuts the blood vessels, the intention of slaughter, and mentioning the name of Allah over it.. and others; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 5498, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) to the one who killed the game with the mura'id, which is the spear and the like: Agreed upon as authentic. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

If the killing tool causes blood to gush out and if Allah's Name is mentioned, eat (of the slaughterer animal). But do not slaughter with a tooth or a nail.
ما أنهر الدم وذكر اسم الله عليه فكل، ليس السن والظفرIf it hits it with its edge, eat it; and if it hits it with its side, it is a dead animal, so do not eat it
إن أصابه بحده فكل، وإن أصابه بعرضه فإنه وقيذ فلا تأكل
