(A statement that the deniers of the divine attributes do not act upon the Qur'an, while committing a transgression against it by declaring it created, and preferring the opinions of men over it; they are similar to the Khawarij in this regard, indeed the Khawarij are better than them)

The Shaykh : All right. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) says:
"This is the case, and those who recite are not workers by it *** when they became self-sufficient with the saying of so-and-so"
He means: These are the ones who recite the Book and describe it as created. If only they had limited themselves to that! But they do not act upon it; rather, they act upon the saying of so-and-so and so-and-so. Thus, they have committed two transgressions against it: first, regarding its origin, and second, regarding its application. He says:
"If it has passed through their throats *** then it is only to the extent of what they understood of the Qur'an"
He means: If the Qur'an has passed through their throats, then only what they understood of it passes through their throats. As for acting upon it, no, it does not reach them. In some respects, they resemble whom? The Khawarij. In fact, it has passed us by in the words of Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) that they are more severe than the Khawarij, because the Khawarij only declare people disbelievers for major sins, whereas the people of denial of attributes declare people disbelievers for following the Sunnah. They say that all those who affirm the attributes are disbelievers. It has also passed us by in this same chapter that they consider their blood and killing them permissible. So Ibn al-Qayyim says: The Khawarij are less severe than you, because the Khawarij do not declare disbelievers except the people of major sins, whereas you declare disbelievers the people of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and faith. Secondly, the Khawarij only rebelled against those who disobeyed Allah, so they are rebelling against the major sins themselves, wanting them to be removed from the earth. You have rebelled against the Sunnah, wanting to erase the Sunnah from the earth. We ask Allah for safety.
