By the Right of Your Most Beautiful Names, Together *** They Are the Attributes of Praise for the Most Merciful (Tawassul to Allah by His Most Beautiful Names and Attributes, and that the Names of Allah carry meanings, and that the Names of Allah are synonymous and distinct, and the response to the Mu'tazilah)

The Shaykh : He said:
"By the Right of Your Most Beautiful Names, Together *** They Are the Attributes of Praise for the Most Merciful"
By His Names as well, the Names of Allah are Most Beautiful, and one seeks nearness to Allah the Exalted through them.Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 18:73 This is seeking nearness to Allah by what? By His Names. And the author, may Allah have mercy on him, says that the meanings of these Names are attributes, in response to the Mu'tazilah who say that the Names of Allah are mere labels that do not carry meanings. They say that the Names of Allah are mere labels that do not carry meanings; Al-'Alim, Al-Sami', Al-Basir means only the one named by this name, not one who possesses the attribute of hearing, knowledge, and sight, and the like. They say that the Names of Allah are what? Mere labels only. But we say that the Names of Allah are labels and attributes; they are labels and attributes. In terms of their indication of the Essence, they are synonymous, and in terms of the indication of each Name to its meaning, they are distinct. So Allah, Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim, Al-Sami', Al-'Alim indicates one Essence, so in this sense they are synonymous. But Allah indicates divinity, Ar-Rahman indicates mercy, Ar-Rahim indicates action, Al-Sami' indicates hearing, and Al-Basir indicates sight. In terms of this meaning, they are distinct; each Name has a meaning different from the meaning of the other Name. For this reason, he said:
"Together *** They Are the Attributes of Praise for the Most Merciful"
"By the Right of Your Most Beautiful Names, Together *** They Are the Attributes of Praise for the Most Merciful"
By His Names as well, the Names of Allah are Most Beautiful, and one seeks nearness to Allah the Exalted through them.
I ask You by every name that is Yours, by which You have named Yourself, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or which You have taught any of Your creation, or which You have kept exclusive to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the great Qur'an the spring of my heart
أسألك بكل اسم هو لك سميت به نفسك أو أنزلته في كتابك أو علمته أحدا من خلقك أو استأثرت به في علم الغيب عندك أن تجعل القرآن العظيم ربيع قلبي"Together *** They Are the Attributes of Praise for the Most Merciful"
