The Third Principle: The Attributes of Allah the Exalted are divided into two categories: affirmative and negative. The affirmative are those that Allah the Exalted has affirmed for Himself in His Book

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"The Third Principle" of the principles of the Attributes
"The Attributes of Allah the Exalted are divided into two categories: affirmative and negative" The affirmative are clear: hearing, sight, knowledge, wisdom, power. The negative means the denied ones, because they are from negation. You say: "negate the garment," meaning he abandoned it. But we said this following others; otherwise, it is better to say affirmative and denied, because "denied" is clearer. These are those that came in the Qur'an, such as His saying:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. ليس كمثله شيء وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
.
"The affirmative are those that Allah the Exalted has affirmed for Himself in His Book, or on the tongue of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and they are all attributes with no deficiency in them in any way, such as life, knowledge, power, rising above the Throne, descending to the lowest heaven, the Face, the Hands, and the like".
We call these what? Affirmative attributes.
