The Categories of Affirmative Attributes.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then the affirmative attributes are divided into two categories: conceptual attributes, meaning those that indicate a concept. Here, he did not divide them into conceptual attributes that indicate a concept, and narrative attributes that came through the report but do not indicate a concept as the first category does. We may say that their counterparts in us are parts and components. We call these narrative attributes because the intellect does not indicate them; only the mere report establishes them. And because they are not a concept among concepts, those who interpreted them as a concept erred and went astray. Those who said the hand is power, the face is the essence, and the like of that, have certainly erred.
Now, we may say: The affirmative attributes are of two types:
The first: what indicates a concept.
The second: what indicates a named entity. In our case, these are parts and components, but in the case of Allah, we do not say so. Rather, we say they are a real hand, a real face, a real eye, a real foreleg, a real thigh, and the like of this.
