Is it permissible for a student of knowledge who is a traveler to excuse himself from leading the prayer by citing his travel and fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Often, when a prominent student of knowledge, a noble Shaykh, or a caller to Allah arrives to lead the prayer, especially if he is a traveler, he excuses himself by saying he is a traveler, to the extent that he does not shorten the prayer for the congregation. Does he have this excuse, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : By Allah, this requires detailed consideration. If he fears that the people will be led astray, or fears that their tongues will speak ill of him, then he should not step forward. However, if he is a great scholar in the sense that his actions serve as a proof, then it is better for him to step forward and pray two rak'ahs so that the people may know the Sunnah (recommended practice) in this matter. Yes, and he should clarify it.
