The Shaykh : We now begin the lesson on hadith. Yes.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The Imam, the Hafiz, 'Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Umdat al-Ahkam*:
The chapter on the bridal gift
From Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him)Sunan Ibn Majah 1958Sahih (Darussalam).
The Shaykh : Repeat, repeat.
The reader: And he made her freedom her bridal gift.
The Shaykh : Safiyyah is Safiyyah bint Huyayy ibn Akhtab, the leader of the Jews, the leader of Banu Nadir. When Khaybar was conquered, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) chose her, freed her, and made her freedom her bridal gift. This means he said, "I have freed you and made your freedom your bridal gift," and he married her. He did not take her as a concubine, but through a valid marriage contract, because she was the daughter of the leader of the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wished to console her and marry her.
The scholars said: "In this is evidence that if a man has a slave woman and marries her, making her freedom her bridal gift, then there is nothing wrong with that. This is not a specific attribute of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), but it is general for him and for the Ummah". Yes.
