Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "Have not the people seen that We created them from a sperm-drop, and behold, he is a clear adversary."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And I am giving you an example of the argumentation of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), or rather the establishment of the proof by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) regarding the possibility of reviving the dead. Listen to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(77) Does man not consider that We created him from a [mere] sperm-drop - then at once he is a clear adversary? (78) And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"
[Ya-Sin 36:77-78]
This interrogative form means negation, denial, and deeming it unlikely that Allah would give life to bones when they are crumbled. So what did Allah say? Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The speech is for the Messenger, and the command is for the Messenger; it is a command for him and his Ummah, unless there is evidence for its specificity to him. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time قل يحييها الذين أنشأها أول مرة
[Ya-Sin 36:79]
This is evidence. How was it evidence? The One who created them the first time is the One who will give them life, because the One capable of creating them the first time is capable of recreating them the second time. Allah the Exalted said:
And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is [even] easier for Him
[Ar-Rum 30:27]
And He said:
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.
[Ya-Sin 36:81]
This is evidence, a clear rational proof, a decisive argument. The One who created them the first time will give them life. Is this convincing or not? Is it convincing? Every person must submit to this argument and evidence.
The second piece of evidence:
and He is, of all creation, Knowing." وهو بكل خلق عليم
[Ya-Sin 36:79]
Every creation is known to Him, because inability stems from one of two things: either ignorance, or weakness. Either ignorance, or weakness. If someone were to ask you, "Can you make a recorder like this?" and you did not know, you did not know how to assemble it, how to join its parts together to make it a recorder capable of sound, could you make it while you do not know? Answer?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : It is not possible. Well, if you know how to make it but you are paralyzed and cannot, can you make it? Why? Because of the lack of ability. And for this reason, Allah the Exalted said:
But Allah is not to be caused failure by anything in the heavens or on the earth. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Competent.
[Fatir 35:44]
And inability is either from ignorance or from lack of ability.
and He is, of all creation, Knowing." وهو بكل خلق عليم
[Ya-Sin 36:79]
This is the second piece of evidence.
[It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite.
[Ya-Sin 36:80]
This is the third piece of evidence regarding the possibility of reviving the dead. How is this? How was it evidence? Green wood combines moisture and cold, is that not so? Well, fire combines heat and dryness. Well, the One who brings out this hot, dry fire from this green, moist, cold wood, and they are opposites and contradictory, is capable of giving life to bones when they are crumbled. How many pieces of evidence were there? Three or four?
The student: Four.

The Shaykh : How quickly you forget, is it not?
The student: Three.

The Shaykh : Three: The first:
He will give them life who produced them the first time
[Ya-Sin 36:79]
.
The second:
and He is, of all creation, Knowing." وهو بكل خلق عليم
[Ya-Sin 36:79]
.
The third:
[It is] He who made for you from the green tree, fire, and then from it you ignite.
[Ya-Sin 36:80]
.
The fourth piece of evidence:
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them?
[Ya-Sin 36:81]
The answer:
Yes بلى
The One who created the heavens and the earth, with all the benefits and utilities in them, and given their greatness and vastness, is capable of creating the like of them. Which is greater: recreating these bones after they were crumbled, or creating the heavens and the earth? Yes. And listen:
The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind
[Ghafir 40:57]
So the One who created the heavens and the earth is capable of creating this human being, a fortiori. Allah the Exalted said:
Yes بلى
Meaning He is capable.
and He is the Knowing Creator.
[Ya-Sin 36:81]
This is the fifth piece of evidence. "Al-Khalaq" (The Creator) is a form of exaggeration from one angle and a form of attribution from another, because the word "Fa'al" in the Arabic language is used for attribution and for frequent action. And the whole matter is realized in attribution to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He is Al-Khalaq, described as the Creator, and He is Al-Khalaq, the one with much creation. Who can count the species of creation, let alone the types of creation, let alone the individuals of creation? Can anyone count them? Can you count the species of creatures? It is not possible. Can you count their types? It is not possible. Can you count their individuals? It is not possible. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is Al-Khalaq because of the multitude of what He creates. And if we were to gather, all of us, the created beings, to count the creation of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), we would not be able to.
Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement."
[Al-Kahf 18:109]
Allah is the Greatest.
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.
[Ya-Sin 36:82]
So every created thing is intended, and every intended thing is said to it "Be," so the number of created things cannot be counted except by Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.
[Ya-Sin 36:81]
This is five pieces of evidence. The sixth piece of evidence:
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.
[Ya-Sin 36:82]
And He whose command is such, and whose affair is such, when He wills a thing, He says to it "Be," and it is. The "fa" (and) here indicates sequence and immediacy. "Yakun" (it is) means that it is never delayed. It is more intense than the edge of the eye and faster than the flash of lightning. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
[Al-Qamar 54:50]
Only once, without repetition and without delay, like the flash of lightning. And for this reason He said here:
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.
[Ya-Sin 36:82]
And for this reason the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas:
When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah's aid.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2516Hasan (Darussalam)
Because Allah is the One capable of giving you, and He is the One capable of helping you.
if the entire creation were to gather together to do something to benefit you- you would never get any benefit except that Allah had written for you. And if they were to gather to do something to harm you- you would never be harmed except that Allah had written for you.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2516Hasan (Darussalam)
Who said this? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said it, and he is the most knowledgeable of the creation about what he says, the most sincere of the creation in what he intends and means, and the most eloquent of the creation in his speech and utterance (peace and blessings be upon him). So in his speech is complete knowledge, in his speech is complete sincerity, and in his speech is complete clarity. So no one has a way to object to the speech of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is not possible for anyone to say, "Perhaps he did not mean this, perhaps he meant such and such," because this speech has fulfilled all the conditions of acceptance in the most perfect way.
