What do you say about the one who says that disagreement is mercy?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says:The questioner : What do you say about the one who says: "Disagreement is mercy"?

The Shaykh : We say to the one who says that disagreement is mercy that this statement is not correct, for Allah the Exalted says:
but they will not cease to differ. (119) Except whom your Lord has given mercy ولا يزالون مختلفين إلا ما رحم ربك
[Hud 11:118-119]
. As for what is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The disagreement of my Ummah is mercy إختلاف أمتي رحمة
, this has no validity and is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not be irregular لا تختلفوا فتختلف قلوبكم
Sunan Abi Dawud 664Sahih (Al-Albani)
. However, the ruling regarding disagreement, or the ruling on differing, is mercy in the sense that if people differ, they do not commit a sin; they do not commit a sin, meaning they exerted effort and then differed, so they do not commit a sin. Rather, the mercy of Allah encompasses them and makes it so that no one who exerts effort has any sin upon him, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
If a judge passes judgment and strives to reach the right conclusion and gets it right, he will have two rewards; if he strives to reach the right conclusion but gets it wrong, he will still have one reward. إذا حكم الحاكم فاجتهد فأصاب فله أجران وإن أخطأ فله أجر
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5381Sahih (Darussalam)
. As for saying that disagreement itself is mercy, this is not correct.
