Is the mother of the wife and the father of the husband through breastfeeding a mahram?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, esteemed Shaykh: It is well known among some families that the father of the wife through breastfeeding is not a mahram to the wife, and likewise, the mother of the wife through breastfeeding is not a mahram to the husband of her daughter through breastfeeding. They permit him to enter her presence and be alone with her, and they may even travel with her, considering her to be a mahram to him. We ask you to clarify the Shari'ah perspective on this matter as it appears to you.

The Shaykh : You mean, is the mother of the wife through breastfeeding and the father of the wife through breastfeeding a mahram? The four madhhabs and the majority of scholars say that she is a mahram, meaning that breastfeeding affects the mahram status through in-laws. However, the scholar of the sea, the distinguished scholar who feared Allah, may Allah not praise him beyond what is true, Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, rejected this. He said that the mother of the wife through breastfeeding is not a mahram to the husband of her daughter through breastfeeding, and that the father through breastfeeding is not a mahram to the wife of his son through breastfeeding. His statement is stronger than the statements of the majority of scholars, because the verse is clear and the hadith is clear. Allah Mighty and Majestic said:
and the wives of your sons وحلائل أبنائكم
What is it?
who are from your [own] loins الذين من أصلابكم
[An-Nisa 4:23]
And the son through breastfeeding is not from his loins. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Breast-feeding makes unlawful (for marriages) the same things that blood tie make unlawful. يحرم من الرضاع ما يحرم من النسب
Sunan Ibn Majah 1937Sahih (Darussalam)
If we were to ask a questioner, "Is your wife's mother forbidden to you by blood relation or by in-law relation?" it would be said, "By in-law relation. There is no blood relation between me and her; she is my wife's mother, but she is distant from me." The hadith forbids through breastfeeding what is forbidden through blood relation. They said that it is not possible to equate breastfeeding with blood relation, even though it differs from it in most rulings. This means that just as it is not valid by explicit text, it is not valid by analogy, because breastfeeding differs from blood relation in most rulings. Is there inheritance between those related by breastfeeding? In other words, does your father through breastfeeding inherit from you as your father by blood relation inherits from you? No. Does he pay the blood money for accidental killing on your behalf? No. Is it obligatory for you to provide for him? No. Is it obligatory to maintain ties with him as it is obligatory to maintain ties with a father by blood relation? No. Therefore, most of the rulings are absent, so there is no text and no analogy. Thus, the statement of the Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him), Shaykh al-Islam, is more correct by scriptural evidence and rational evidence. However, the majority of scholars, including the four Imams, hold that the mahrams through breastfeeding include those whose prohibition is through in-law relations. Yes.
