Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : It is mentioned in the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, O Shaykh: [Al-Hujurat 49:6]
The Shaykh : Yes
The questioner : The verse, and some of the exegetes mentioned that it was revealed regarding al-Walid ibn 'Uqbah.
And does this mean that a Companion is accused of open sinfulness? Does this mean the reason for revelation is correct, or is there a point to consider?
The Shaykh : Regarding the issue that the reason for revelation is one thing, and the issue of whether there is an open sinner among the Companions is another. Yes, there is an open sinner among them, but it is like a white hair on the skin of a black bull; it is very rare. The original state of the Companions is integrity. Otherwise, there were among them those who committed unlawful sexual intercourse, those who stole, and those who drank intoxicants, but this is rare. Therefore, it is not permissible to make this a rule that the Companions are not trustworthy, as the Rafidah did. The Rafidah do not consider the Companions trustworthy except for a small number from the family of the Prophet and those they designated from others.
And the correct view is that the original state of the Companions is integrity, and that the sins committed by some of them are submerged in the face of the virtues they were characterized by. And here this meeting ends, and until the next meeting, if Allah wills, on the twenty-fourth day. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Resurrection.
The student: May Allah reward you with good.
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance
The Shaykh : Yes
