Exegesis of Verses (26 - 27) of Surat al-Hadid.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this session, we will continue with what we have been doing previously, which is to explain verses from the Noble Qur'an as Allah opens the way for us. We have reached the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture
[Al-Hadid 57:26]
This sentence is affirmed by three affirmers: the first is the omitted oath, the second is the letter lam, and the third is qad.
And We have already sent Noah and Abraham
[Al-Hadid 57:26]
Noah is the first of the messengers, peace and blessings be upon them, and he is one of the five resolute prophets. Abraham is the father of the prophets after him, and the prophets are referred back to him, meaning to his religion. For this reason, Muslims, Jews, and Christians dispute over him. The Jews say he is a Jew, the Christians say he is a Christian, and the Muslims say he is a Hanif Muslim, and this is the truth. It is astonishing that the Christians and Jews say he is a Christian or a Jew, when they were not Christians or Jews until after him, but they have no intellect.
and placed in their descendants
[Al-Hadid 57:26]
meaning the descendants of Noah and Abraham.
prophethood and the Book النبوة والكتاب
and prophethood and the Book, meaning the messengers, peace and blessings be upon them. In this is evidence that Adam was not a messenger, and that Idris was not before Noah, as some historians have mentioned, which is an error contrary to the Noble Qur'an. There was no messenger before Noah. Adam was a prophet who was spoken to; Allah the Mighty and Majestic spoke to him with whatever He willed of His revelation. Then his sons followed his path after him. When people spread out and multiplied, disagreement arose among them, as Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
Mankind was [of] one religion [before their deviation]; then Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed.
[Al-Baqarah 2:213]
And His saying:
and the Book والكتاب
The intended meaning is the generic, because every messenger has a Book with him, as the Mighty and Majestic said:
We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice.
[Al-Hadid 57:25]

and among them is he who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
[Al-Hadid 57:26]
Among them, meaning some of them, are guided. The yaa was deleted, as is the rule in the Arabic language; its original form is muhtadi with a yaa, but it was deleted for lightness.
Among them is one who is guided
meaning some of them.
and many of them are defiantly disobedient.
[Al-Hadid 57:16]
meaning not guided. This is the reality: most of the children of Adam are astray, as Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah
[Al-An'am 6:116]
Then We followed in their footsteps with Our messengers

The student: ...

The Shaykh : We have read it,
Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
We followed
means we followed, derived from qafaa, because one who walks behind you is following you.
in their footstepsعلى آثارهم
meaning the tracks of Noah and Abraham and whoever was among the other messengers.
with Our messengers برسلنا
meaning those who followed them.
and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Maryوَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
It is stated explicitly because, peace be upon him, there is no messenger between him and Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, nor even a prophet; there is no messenger or prophet between them. And what is said that Khaleed ibn al-Madan and others had prophethood is all a lie.
and We gave him the Gospel وآتيناه الإنجيل
is the Book that Allah the Mighty and Majestic revealed to Isa, and it is considered a completion of the Torah, because the Torah is the mother of the books among the Children of Israel.
And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
Three things that Allah placed in the hearts of the Christians who followed Isa out of mercy; they were the softest of people in heart and the most merciful to creation while they were upon the law of Isa. But after they disbelieved in Muhammad, they became the harshest of people, or among the harshest, as you know what happened between the Muslims and the Christians in the Crusades and other conflicts.
and monasticism ورهبانية
severance from the world for worship. Yes.
tenderness and mercy رأفة ورحمة
Raafa is softer than rahmah and more eloquent; it is a type of rahmah, but softer and gentler.
and monasticism ورهبانية
It is severance from the world for worship.
which they did not prescribe for themselves ابتدعوها
We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
meaning that We did not impose it upon them, but they sought the pleasure of Allah. For this reason, we say that
except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
is a disconnected exception. But despite the fact that they innovated it and chose it for themselves,
they did not observe it with due observance
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
meaning they did not care for it with the obligatory care of doing good in this monasticism they innovated, but they behaved in it as they pleased.
So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
We gave the ones who believed among them their reward
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
meaning their reward.
and many of them are defiantly disobedient.
[Al-Hadid 57:16]
Many of these Christians are fasiq, meaning outside the obedience of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. In this is evidence that if a person innovates a bid'ah, he will not be successful in establishing it, so he will be astray in the original and astray in the branch. Even if he strives, even if he is humble, you will find some people who have innovated dhikr, prayers, or supplications or the like, and you will find them humble, their hearts weeping, their hearts humble, but it does not benefit them because they are upon misguidance. We ask Allah for safety and well-being for you and for us. Now, to the question period, from the right.

The questioner : O Shaykh, can you give us more than one question?

The Shaykh : We will give you one question, and if Allah wills, it may come back to you.

The questioner : ... and may Allah reward you with good.
