If a person passes by graveyards in a car, does he greet the people in them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person passes by the graveyards, is it prescribed for him to greet them while he is on the road, whether he sees the graves or not, for example if he is in a car?

The Shaykh : Yes, by Allah. As for if he sees them, the jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) mentioned that the one passing by them is like the one standing there, meaning he greets them and makes du'a. As for the one behind a wall, there is some hesitation regarding this. It may be said that since this wall is a fence around this graveyard, he greets them. It may also be said that he does not greet them because he does not see their graves. However, in such a case, if he makes a general du'a, not as a du'a of visiting, that is good.
