Is supplication in the graveyards permissible? Some people go to the graveyards and make supplication, saying, “We make supplication for the deceased.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is supplication in the graveyards permissible? Some people go to the graveyards and make supplication, saying, “We make supplication for the deceased?”

The Shaykh : As for going out to the graveyards, greeting the people of the graves, and making supplication for them, this is a sunnah (recommended practice) that came from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
As for going out to the graveyards to supplicate to Allah the Exalted there, this is a bid'ah (religious innovation), a blameworthy innovation. Indeed, Allah the Exalted is supplicated to in every place except in filthy places, which Allah Blessed and Exalted is He purifies from supplication to Him. He is supplicated to in the mosques, in the houses, in the markets, and in every place. No virtue has been reported in supplicating to Allah Blessed and Exalted is He in the graveyard. Therefore, we say that whoever intends the graveyard to supplicate to Allah the Exalted there is an innovator, and his action is to be denounced. However, if he goes there because he believes in the blessing of such-and-such a shaykh or such-and-such a shaykh, that is more severe and more severe. So whoever does this must repent to Allah and abandon this sin, and he should advise his brothers who do it. In my opinion, most of those who do that are driven to it only by ignorance and blind following. Otherwise, if a person were to return to mere thinking, he would find that this is foolishness: to go out to the graveyard to supplicate to Allah there. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you and bless you.
