Some people, O Shaykh, when you tell them not to do such and such, because people think such and such about them, they say, "I have no concern for what people think; let them think what they will."

The questioner : Some people, O Shaykh, when you tell them not to do such and such, because people think such and such about them, they say, "I have no concern for what people think; let them think what they will."
The Shaykh : Do you mean that his intention in what he did was enjoining good and forbidding evil?
The questioner : No, it is just something in an ordinary transaction.
The Shaykh : It is not permissible; rather, it is not befitting. What is befitting for a person is to stay away from this matter, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One of the things people have learned from the words of the earliest prophecies is, “If you don’t feel any shame, do whatever you like.”إن مما أدرك الناس من كلام النبوة الأولى إذا لم تستح فاصنع ما شئت
