If a person sneezes during prayer, should he praise Allah the Exalted?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person sneezes during prayer, is it obligatory for him to praise Allah?

The Shaykh : If a person sneezes during prayer or outside of prayer, praising Allah the Exalted is not obligatory for him; rather, it is better and more complete. If he does not praise Allah, he does not commit a sin by doing so. Praising Allah upon sneezing is prescribed for a person whether he is in prayer or not. However, if he is in prayer and fears that he will disturb the other worshippers with him, he should say the praise quietly and not raise his voice, because it is feared that if he raises his voice, he will disturb the worshippers or someone might rush to say, "May Allah have mercy on you." If someone says to a person who sneezed and praised Allah, "May Allah have mercy on you," and the one saying it is in prayer, his prayer is invalid because the letter "kaf" indicates address. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is not appropriate إنه لا يصلح
meaning in prayer
No talk to people شيء من كلام الناس
Sunan Abi Dawud 930Sahih (Al-Albani)
or he said:
from the speech of human beings من كلام الآدميين
So one should be careful about that. It is established in the authentic hadith that Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the prayer, and a man from among the people sneezed and said, "Praise be to Allah." Mu'awiyah said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you." The people cast their eyes at him, criticizing him for this word. He said: "May my mother be bereaved of me" So they began hitting their thighs to silence him, and he stopped. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) finished the prayer, he called him. Mu'awiyah said: "I sacrifice my father and mother for him; I have never seen a teacher who taught better than him. By Allah, he did not rebuke me or scold me, but he only said:
It is not permissible to talk during Salat because it consists of glorifying Allah, declaring His Greatness as well as recitation of the Qur'an إن هذه الصلاة لا يصلح فيها شيء من كلام الناس إنما هي التسبيح والتحميد والتكبير وقراءة القرءان
Riyad as-Salihin 700
"
or as he said (peace and blessings be upon him). This indicates that responding to the sneezer in prayer when he praises Allah may happen from some of the worshippers, either out of ignorance or heedlessness. Therefore, if he fears that, he should not raise his voice in praise. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
