Some people commit violations and say, "Indeed, the religion is easy... and the important thing is not to associate partners with Allah." What is the correct meaning of the religion being easy?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Your Eminence, regarding many of the general public.

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : Many of the general public commit errors. If someone says to them, "Why is this?" they say, "The religion is easy." What does easy mean? That the most important thing is not to associate anything with Allah, and the rest is simple?

The Shaykh : This statement is wrong. That is, if a person says, "I will do whatever I want as long as I am a monotheist, and the religion is easy," we say: If you do not uphold the religion, where is the religion you have that you can say the religion is easy?
And the meaning of "the religion is easy" is that what Allah has made a religion for the servants does not contain hardship. There is no hardship in the prayer, no hardship in the ablution, no hardship in the full ritual bath. And if there is hardship, the person moves to another level. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to 'Imran ibn Husayn:
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side صل قائما فإن لم تستطع فقاعدا فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب
Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani)
This is what we mean by the religion being easy. As for leaving some of the obligatory acts or violating some of the forbidden things and saying, "The religion is easy," this is wrong, because we say: What you did is not religion at all. Yes.

The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.
