The Shaykh’s note that greeting with salam when asking a question is not prescribed.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May the peace of Allah, His mercy, and His blessings be upon you, esteemed Shaykh.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The questioner : First, we testify to your love for the sake of Allah, and there is a question: A woman asks about the expiation for accidental killing. She began fasting two consecutive months, fasted for one month, and then her menstruation came. What is the ruling?

The Shaykh : First, may Allah bless you. I ask Allah the Exalted to love you as you have loved me for His sake.
Second: Greeting with salam when asking a question has no basis, because we have all been sitting here for a while, and no one has come in and greeted. This is why the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would ask the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in the gathering without greeting him. However, some people have become accustomed to this, and I do not know of any basis for it. Do you understand?
