Is it not possible to interpret the word "good" in the saying of the Exalted, "And indeed, he is intensely fond of good," as referring to horses, based on the hadith, "Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection"?

The questioner : The Shaykh, may Allah reward you. Is it possible to interpret the saying of the Exalted,
And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense. وإنّه لحبّ الخير لشديد
[Al-'Adiyat 100:8]
, as meaning that "good" here refers to horses?

The Shaykh : Horses?

The questioner : Horses.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Since the Sunnah explains the Qur'an, in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that
Goodness is tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection. الخيل معقود في نواصيها الخير إلى يوم القيامة
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3574Sahih (Darussalam)
?

The Shaykh : No, I have not seen anyone say this, that the intended meaning of "good" is horses. The Sunnah says:
Blessing is in the forelocks of horses الخيل في نواصيها الخير
Muwatta Malik 21:46
, and it did not say: "They are good," or say: "They are the good." Also, not everyone loves horses. If you were to examine the conditions of the children of Adam, you would find that perhaps one out of a thousand...

The questioner : What is the connection of the verse to this?

The Shaykh : It does not hold up. It would mean that everyone loves the good that they desire! One person loves camels, one loves sheep, one loves crops, one loves trade, one loves cars.

The questioner : The reason for revelation was that it was...!

The Shaykh : There is no reason for revelation in this.

The questioner : The most precious wealth of the Arabs!

The Shaykh : I have not seen anyone say that.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Yes.
